Why Do We Fight, If Not For VICTORY

Whenever our country decides to put our men and women in uniform into harms way; we need to be sure that the objective is victory. Today President Obama stated, in an interview with ABC News, that he was uncomfortable with the word "Victory" when discussing our current involvement in Afghanistan! Don't know about you, but that makes me as mad as hell! We have a "Commander in Chief" who is putting our most cherished national treasure into harms way against an enemy who is determined to destroy us, and he's not comfortable with "victory"!

How do you say grounds for impeachment?

Bruce - I agree that victory should always be the goal. The problem over there is this; how do you define 'victory'. It's been more than a year since I left that part of the world but unless things have changed drastically the mission has crept to unmanageable levels and our military is trying to do things other than kill people/break things. That's not to say that establishing a democratic government and helping people with drastically different ideas try to work together aren't worthwhile or important, because they are. But when they become part of the military mission, defining victory becomes a much more difficult proposition. I think Colin Powell had it right when he demanded very clear and well defined endpoints for the first Gulf War and didn't allow them to change. This is certainly not intended to be a defense for our current Commander in Chief but rather a comment that we should be very careful and deliberate about what we ask our Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen to put their lives on the line for.
